SOC 2 with Datadog: what's included

One named security lead, backed by analysts who build SOC 2 programs and configure Datadog.

icon-8

Datadog SOC 2 coverage map

Each SOC 2 criterion in scope marked as covered by Datadog today, covered once a feature is turned on, or needing another tool or a process.

icon-9

Vulnerability and misconfiguration scanning

Datadog Cloud Security scanning hosts and containers for vulnerabilities and cloud accounts for misconfigurations, with severities tied to your remediation timelines (SOC 2 CC7.1).

icon-7

Security monitoring and alert triage

Cloud SIEM content packs enabled for in-scope logs, each signal routed to a named person and each investigation recorded as a case the auditor can sample (SOC 2 CC7.2, CC7.3).

icon-6

Runtime detection and file integrity monitoring

Workload Protection rules tuned for your hosts and containers, with file integrity monitoring on critical system and configuration files (SOC 2 CC6.8, CC7.1).

icon-5

Policies and evidence that match Datadog

Logging, monitoring, vulnerability management and incident response policies written around your Datadog setup, with log retention matched to policy and evidence exported to your GRC platform on a schedule.

icon-4

SOC 2 audit readiness and auditor liaison

A readiness review before the audit window, then coordination with your audit firm and answers to its evidence requests, so your engineers stay on the product.

Penetration testing

External testing that SOC 2 auditors and enterprise buyers ask for, complementing Datadog's internal scanning.

How our SOC 2 consulting for Datadog users works: Assess, Build, Operate

Assess, Build, Operate. The same security lead stays with you through each audit cycle.

01

Assess

Review your Datadog account, in-scope systems and current controls against SOC 2. Output: a Datadog SOC 2 coverage map with an owner and a date for each gap.

02

Build

Turn on and tune the Datadog features that close gaps, write the policies around them and set up evidence collection. Output: a program ready for the audit window.

03

Operate

Triage Datadog findings and signals weekly, track remediation, keep evidence current and manage each annual audit with your audit firm.

Frequently asked questions about SOC 2 for Datadog users

Yes. Datadog Cloud Security scans for vulnerabilities and misconfigurations, Cloud SIEM detects threats in your logs, and Workload Protection adds file integrity monitoring. Policies and other non-technical controls are managed outside Datadog.

Usually, yes. Datadog finds vulnerabilities, misconfigurations and threats. A GRC platform such as Vanta, Drata or Secureframe manages policies, training, access reviews, vendor risk and the auditor workflow. We set up Datadog so its findings become evidence in the GRC platform.

Datadog can supply evidence for CC7.1 (vulnerability scanning and file integrity monitoring), CC7.2 (monitoring for anomalies), CC7.3 (evaluating security events through case records) and CC6.8 (detecting unauthorized changes). Infrastructure monitoring can also support availability criteria such as capacity monitoring. Governance, HR, vendor and access review controls need other tools and written processes.

Yes, for most features. The Datadog Agent supports vulnerability scanning, Workload Protection and log collection on Linux and Windows servers, and CIS benchmark checks on supported Linux distributions. Datadog's SOC 2 framework rules evaluate cloud resources, so on-premises hosts are evidenced through CIS benchmark results and a written hardening standard. The servers need outbound connectivity to Datadog.

Datadog lists a SOC 2 Type 2 report and ISO/IEC 27001 certification in its Trust Center. That report covers Datadog as a vendor and belongs in your vendor risk review. Your own SOC 2 audit covers your systems.

It depends on how many controls need a new process. Datadog shortens the technical work. Policies, access reviews, vendor reviews and incident response testing take the same time as for any company. For SOC 2 Type 2, the observation period typically adds three to twelve months once controls are in place.

Yes. Our consultants work remotely with companies across Canada and the United States, and your security lead meets your team by video on a schedule set at kickoff.
