What do enterprise buyers ask AI companies for in a security review?
The requests we see most often when an enterprise reviews an AI vendor.
A SOC 2 report
A SOC 2 Type 2 report from an independent CPA firm, issued against the AICPA Trust Services Criteria and covering the controls behind your product.
Proof of AI governance
Buyers ask who approves new models, how the company assesses AI risk and how model behaviour is monitored. ISO/IEC 42001 certification or alignment with the NIST AI RMF gives a documented answer.
Answers on customer data and models
AI vendor questionnaires ask whether customer data trains models, which model providers process the data, how long prompts and outputs are kept and which sub-processors are involved.
An AI penetration test report
Buyers and auditors want evidence that LLM features and agents were tested for prompt injection, data leakage and unsafe tool calls, with findings fixed and retested.
Limits on what agents can do
For AI agents, buyers ask how tool permissions, human approval steps and activity logs limit the actions an agent takes for a user. AIUC-1 certifies specific agents against requirements like these.
Privacy and health data law
HIPAA and the GDPR are laws that apply once health data or EU personal data is in scope. SOC 2 and ISO 42001 are frameworks a company chooses. Healthcare and European buyers ask for evidence on the law and the framework together.

How does AI security and governance consulting work with Assess, Build, Operate?
Every engagement is led by a senior CISSP in the US or Canada.
01
Assess
A capability assessment of your security program, a review of the AI systems in scope and a gap report against SOC 2 and the AI frameworks your buyers name. You get a roadmap in priority order.
02
Build
Security Program Manual, policies, controls and evidence, plus AI governance procedures for model approval, AI risk assessment and monitoring. Your engineers implement the technical controls with clear instructions.
03
Operate
Our team operates Vanta or Drata, answers questionnaires, coordinates audits and repeats AI testing, so the program stays current through every renewal.
In what order should an AI company do SOC 2, ISO 42001 and AIUC-1?
The order we recommend for AI companies selling to enterprise buyers. Your buyers' requests can change the order.
1. Start with SOC 2
-
Why first: The SOC 2 policies, risk assessment and evidence become the base that ISO 42001 and AIUC-1 reuse.
-
Type 1 or Type 2: A Type 1 report covers control design at a point in time. A Type 2 report covers how the controls operated over an observation period.
2. Answer questionnaires and test the AI
-
Questionnaires: One approved answer library from the first deal, covering AI data use, model providers and sub-processors.
-
AI penetration test: A test of LLM features and agents before the first large enterprise review, then again after major model or prompt changes.
3. Add AI governance
-
ISO 42001: Certification for buyers who want a certified AI management system. ISO/IEC 42001 follows the same clause structure as ISO 27001, so one management system can cover both standards.
-
NIST AI RMF: Alignment for buyers who name the NIST AI RMF in a questionnaire or contract.
4. Certify the agent with AIUC-1
-
Who needs AIUC-1: Companies whose product is an AI agent that takes actions for customers.
-
What AIUC-1 adds: Certification of specific agents, with third-party testing every quarter.

How does Truvo operate the GRC platform for AI companies?
Truvo is a professional-services firm. Vanta and Drata are the platforms, and our team operates them for you.
A Vanta and Drata partner
Truvo is a Vanta partner and a Drata partner. You own the account, and our team configures integrations, tests and evidence collection for your stack.
One control set for every framework
SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001 and HIPAA controls map to one set of policies and evidence in the platform. Each new framework reuses the work already done.
AI evidence next to SOC 2 evidence
Model inventories, AI risk assessments and AI test reports are stored in the GRC platform with the SOC 2 evidence, ready for auditors and buyers.
A senior lead on every engagement
Every engagement is led by a senior CISSP in the US or Canada, backed by specialists for testing, GRC and privacy work.
Who is AI security and governance consulting for?
AI companies that sell to enterprise buyers and need security and AI governance evidence to close deals.
Good fit if any of these apply
-
Your product is built on LLMs, AI agents or your own models
-
An enterprise buyer sent a security questionnaire with AI-specific questions
-
You hold SOC 2 and buyers now ask for ISO 42001, the NIST AI RMF or AIUC-1
-
You have Vanta or Drata and need a team to operate the platform
-
Health data or EU customer data brings HIPAA or the GDPR into scope
-
Your engineers prefer to stay focused on the product roadmap
Better fit elsewhere

What do AI companies ask about AI governance consulting?
We recommend SOC 2 first for AI companies that sell to enterprise buyers. In the deals Truvo supports, procurement asks for a SOC 2 report before AI-specific evidence. ISO/IEC 42001 comes next when buyers ask for a certified AI management system, and the SOC 2 policies, risk assessment and evidence carry over.
Buyers ask for a SOC 2 report and a completed security questionnaire. The AI-specific questions cover whether customer data trains models and which model providers process customer data. Buyers also ask how long prompts and outputs are kept, how the product resists prompt injection and who reviews the actions an agent takes.
Yes. Truvo is a Vanta partner and a Drata partner. Our team operates the account you own, from integrations and automated tests to policies, evidence and audit coordination. AI frameworks such as ISO 42001 can be managed in the same platform as SOC 2.
SOC 2 covers the system behind your product, including AI features in scope, against the AICPA Trust Services Criteria. The current criteria (2017, with points of focus revised in 2022) set no requirements specific to model behaviour or AI risk assessment. An AICPA exposure draft released on October 28, 2026 proposes AI points of focus for 2027 criteria, and public comment on the draft runs through January 15, 2027. Buyers who ask about AI risk today expect ISO 42001 certification, NIST AI RMF alignment or an AI penetration test report.
ISO/IEC 42001 certifies the AI management system of a company: how the company governs, assesses and monitors AI. AIUC-1 certifies specific AI agents against requirements for data and privacy, security, safety, reliability, accountability and society. A company whose product is an AI agent can hold both.
The NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF 1.0) is a voluntary framework that NIST published in January 2023. The framework organizes AI risk work into four functions: Govern, Map, Measure and Manage. NIST offers no certification for the AI RMF, so companies show alignment through policies, AI risk assessments and a mapping to the framework, usually when a buyer names the framework in a questionnaire or contract.
An AI governance consultant sets up how a company approves, assesses and monitors AI systems, then produces the evidence buyers and auditors review. At Truvo, the work covers AI policies, model approval procedures and AI risk assessments. The work also covers ISO 42001 or NIST AI RMF alignment and the day-to-day operation of the program in Vanta or Drata.
An independent CPA firm issues the SOC 2 report. An accredited certification body issues ISO 42001 certification. For AIUC-1, AIUC conducts the evaluations and an accredited auditor performs the audit. Truvo prepares your company and operates the program, so each report and certificate is independent of Truvo.
